South East Asia Most Vulnerable to Climate Change

A new study proves, that South East Asia is one of its most vulnerable region to climate change impacts. This was stated by the study’s lead author, James Watson, on Wednesday (18/9/2013).

Watson is also a Director of the Climate Change Program at the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), in collaboration with Takuya Iwamura from Stanford University and Nathalie Butt of the University of Queensland. Their results are shaped map depicting areas in the world, which has indicated a high level of vulnerability to climate change impacts.

“The areas most at risk are South and Southeast Asia, Central and Western Europe, South America and the southern part of southern Australia,” said Watson.

REDD+ Agency Not Projects

At the climate change conference in Bali, in 2007, the program reduced emissions through deforestation and forest degradation (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation land/REDD) began sound propounded.

Such efforts are mitigation measures to reduce the impacts of climate change. Deforestation and land degradation makes the earth warmer conditions. Palm Oil Causes Largest Deforestation

International environmental organization, Greenpeace said palm oil producer groups who are members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil ( RSPO ), are major cause of deforestation in Indonesia from 2009-2011. Additionally RSPO also a contributor to 39 percent blamed the fire point, which occurs at their concession in Riau, from January to June 2013. Thus unfolded Greenpeace, in a report titled ‘Certified Destruction’, Tuesday (3/9/2013).

“RSPO wants its members to be leaders of the sustainability industry, but their standards are free to destroy forests and draining peatlands,” said Bustar Maitar, from Greenpeace Indonesia.

Wait for the Birth of Indonesia REDD Agency

Birth of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD ) agency in Indonesia is a matter of time. Assistant of Indonesia President for Climate Change, Agus Purnomo, Friday ( 08/30/2013 ) state that the agency will be the continuation of the  REDD Task Force, which ended some time ago.

“The REDD task force is over, now just waiting for the birth of REDD Agency,” Agus said on the sidelines of the National Meeting of Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists (SIEJ ), in Jakarta.

Snow Layer Depreciation is Real

The melting of snow due to global warming, got more evident. One result is the most fantastic melting Arctic land, that is now allegedly became a lake.

There is not unique news, that there is ice melt tragedy because of the heat. But it becomes a problem if the ice layer is in the polar ice, or snow peaks continue to decrease due to global warming. Troublesome when ice turns into water is increasingly fulfilling the Earth, so it is true that more and rising sea levels will submerge densely populated locations on the beach.
